M&A INSIGHTS: IMAP UK’S PHARMA SERVICES SECTOR REPORT 2025
Pharma Services Market Overview:
Pharma Services M&A is surging, driven by breakthroughs in advanced therapies, accelerating technology penetration, and aggressive private equity-led consolidation. This momentum is underpinned by robust funding tailwinds from rising pharma R&D spending, a burgeoning pipeline of new drugs, and an increasing reliance on outsourcing. With median valuations climbing to a commanding 20x EBITDA, the sector is cementing its position as a critical enabler of innovation and efficiency across the pharmaceutical value chain.
Key Highlights of the Report:
The pharmaceutical services landscape is undergoing rapid change, driven by critical trends that are reshaping the sector. Three key themes defining the future of the industry are:
- THE GROWING TECH INFLUENCE IN TRANSFORMING PHARMA SERVICES: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics is fundamentally reshaping every aspect of the pharma value chain - from drug discovery and clinical trial optimization to manufacturing and commercialization. Companies that effectively leverage data and infuse AI into their processes will set themselves apart, as access to meaningful data and the ability to transform it into actionable insights becomes a core competitive differentiator
- BREAKTHROUGH IN ADVANCED THERAPIES: Next-generation modalities—such as cell and gene therapies, RNA-based treatments, and antibody drug conjugates—are driving long-term growth and fundamentally altering the manufacturing landscape. These therapies require specialized manufacturing processes, prompting both large pharma and biotech firms to increasingly rely on outsourced service providers to meet their production needs
- PRIVATE EQUITY-LED CONSOLIDATION: Pharma Services providers face a critical choice between broadening their service offerings through consolidation or focusing on deep specialization

At the start of the year, the outlook for Q1 was highly optimistic, with expectations of slowing inflation, lower interest rates, and improving growth projections. Unfortunately, we live in interesting times. Early in the year, speculation around the disruptive impact of AI on traditional SaaS business models triggered a significant revaluation in parts of the Software sector. More recently, escalation in the Middle East conflict has introduced fresh volatility – pushing oil prices higher, adding upward pressure on inflation, and creating supply-chain uncertainties. While it is too early to tell how these new shocks will eventually affect the global M&A market, we can be sure that our dealmakers around the world are on the ground every day – negotiating, re-evaluating, adjusting positions, and adapting to whatever the environment throws at them to deliver the best outcomes for their clients. They’ve done it for over 50 years, and that’s exactly what they’ll continue to do, no matter the conditions.
